An unseasonably late case of powder fever has gripped Colorado.
Three weeks into May, Arapahoe Basin had one of the best powder days of the season, reporting 19 inches of snow yesterday. The resort and skiers have been using the hashtag “#Maybasin” on social media to commemorate this snowfall, prior to the resort’s days of beachy, bluebird weather. Twice as many guests showed up at the mountain than the resort expected, A-Basin spokeswoman Adrienne Saia Isaac said in an email.
The mountain is the only hill opened in Colorado.
According to Boulder-based powder forecaster Open Snow, Arapahoe could get up to 3 feet of snow by Saturday. Isaac said the extra snow allowed the resort to re-open the Pallavicini lift, which will remain open through Sunday, giving skiers access to the resort’s steeper terrain.
The resort still plans to be open through June 4, but if snow continues to stick, this closing day might be pushed further into the summer, Isaac said.
